Area rugs
Have area rugs professionally cleaned before your move. They will return from the cleaners rolled, wrapped and ready for packing. This way, those expensive rugs will arrive at their destination neat, clean, safe, and ready to be used right away!
Furniture
A huge easy chair can be difficult to move. When manoeuvring huge chairs around corners, use the "hook" technique. Move the chair into the doorway with its back facing outward so it resembles a "L." Then, wrap (hook) it around the door frame and squeak it through.
Houseplants
Put your plants in one box and leave the lid open so you always know where they are. Because they are the most fragile, pack them last and place them on top of other boxes or ship them separately.
Heavy Items
Bulky items are much easier to move when all attached parts are removed. For example, if you have a wooden desk with drawers and contents still inside, then iten the table will be heavier. Remove the drawers and empty the contents into another safe location before picking up the item.
Small Items
Eliminate all unused or superfluous items ruthlessly before you pack a single box. You'll have less to pack, move, and unpack, and you'll be able to start fresh in your new home.
